MANUFACTURING
Manufacturing process
KURo Setta is carefully handmade one by one by craftsmen in Nara Prefecture, the holy land of footwear.
The process of making KURo setta can be broadly divided into three parts: the straps, the top plate, and the bottom plate.
The thong is the part that is held between the thumb and index finger and that connects the geta to the foot. These thongs can become painful as you wear them, so they are carefully made by hand by craftsmen. By making them by hand, they become more comfortable on the foot and reduce chafing caused by the thong. In addition, wearing footwear with thongs can have many health benefits, such as forming the arch of the foot, distributing pressure on the feet, and improving posture.
Next is the top plate. The top plate is the part that the sole of the foot rests on, and is generally made from tatami mats or bamboo. KURO setta uses domestic cowhide for the top plate, which has the characteristic of conforming to the shape of the person's foot as they wear it.
Finally, the sole is manufactured. This is the part that is attached to the underside of the tabletop and adheres to the ground. The bottom of the KURo setta uses an EVA sole, which is highly water-resistant and repels water, making it difficult for dirt to stick to it. It is also lightweight, making it easy to walk in and less tiring.
Finally, the craftsman manually rubs these three together to complete the product. The straps and top plate require many detailed manual steps, and even attaching the sole requires careful selection of the adhesive and material, and compatibility is also important, so all of these steps require skill.

Straps: Cowhide, Japanese crepe fabric, denim
Base: Cowhide, denim
Sole: EVA
Tip: Himilon (soft short-napped fabric)
The "Nubuck leather" used for KURosetta is made from domestically produced cowhide, tanned using tannin, a component found in plant tannins, and finished with almost no surface processing such as embossing.
It is also called "the leather of leathers" because it has the most leather-like feel among many types of leather. It has a natural texture that is instantly recognizable as genuine leather, a high-quality feel and style, a simple smell, and a smooth feel. Natural markings such as scars, wrinkles, blood vessels, and pores are left intact, giving it a very rich and unique look.
KURO setta also supports the Thinking Leather Action initiative, aiming to make the most of leather products without waste.
HOW TO WEAR
How to wear
The basic traditional way to wear them is to stick your heel out a little (1-3cm) and lightly hook the straps with just your toes. If you want to wear them in a more modern way, tuck your toes deep into the straps.
When putting your feet in, be careful not to twist the straps. Once you put on geta, they will take on the habit of your feet, so putting them on the first time is very important.
If your geta get dirty, squeeze a rag with cold or warm water and gently dab the dirty area. The soles are attached with a strong adhesive, but you should never put them in water. This may cause the soles to come off.
